Our Mission
The overriding goal of the Akwaaba Health Initiative is to enhance access to health care and improve health outcomes for vulnerable populations in the city of Worcester. The specific objectives of the clinic include:
- To provide medical care and assessment for populations that are not presently receiving health care due to insurance and income difficulties, immigration status or actual and perceived cultural barriers.
- To connect these patients- particularly those with chronic conditions- to continuous means of care outside the clinic as soon as possible, in part by addressing concerns over the feasibility of accessing community health centers and primary care physicians.
- To emphasize the role of preventative care within these communities.
- To connect patients with presently available social services that may be underutilized, including MassHealth.
- To involve members of the targeted population in the operation of the clinic as much as possible.
- To provide culturally competent care.
